The weirdest thing happened on Monday, January 1st: I woke up and my hair, which had previously just barely grazed my shoulders, had grown to resemble Alanis Morisette in the Thank You music video overnight. 2018 is already off to a weird start.
Kidding aside, I finally took the plunge and got hair extensions. My stylist (Laura Rugetti at The Beauty Can) is the queen of hair extensions, and she was thrilled when I told her that I was considering freshening up my look for the new year.
I didn’t hate my pre-extension hair at all, but I will admit I was getting frustrated with the slow pace of growth. After chopping my hair to a pixie cut in June 2016 and regretting it shortly after, I had come to accept the punishingly-slow drudgery of growing it out again. My hair does grow fast which helps but after eighteen months of patience, I was itching to have more to play with.
Admittedly, I was worried that I would hate the extensions. I experimented with eyelash extensions once in the past and after paying $100 to have them put on, a week later I was having them removed. It just wasn’t my thing. I have to say that now, a week after having these hair extensions in, I can confidently assert that they are definitely my thing.
If you are considering extensions, you should know up front that they are not low-maintenance at all. Showering and styling take twice as long as they did before, and I had to purchase some special products to keep from damaging the extensions.
Even with all the sacrifice of time and money, I am really enjoying my new hair and I plan to continue using extensions for a while.
What were we talking about? Oh right, clothes!
V-Neck Tee (American Apparel) ♦ Boots (Steve Madden)♦ Jeans – old (Similar) ♦ Jean Jacket – old (Similar)♦ Hat (Brixton)
This might be my favorite outfit yet to be featured on The Getup Blog, and not least of all because my beloved Cosmo joined me for the photo shoot! In terms of model status, he definitely got the good genes in the family.
Speaking of jeans (see what I did there?), these are my absolute favorite pair. They are totally unique and not available for purchase anywhere because I ripped the holes myself during what I like to call The Great White Wine DIY Psychosis of 2014. Of all the jeans I defiled with a razor blade that night, this pair turned out the best. Even though the rips would make any grandma worth her weight in Werther’s Originals exclaim, “Why would anyone walk around with HOLES in their PANTS?!”, I simply adore these jeans.
These shoes are a fairly new purchase with a bit of a story. If you read my post about our disastrous time in Eureka, you might recall that my favorite pair of boots were stolen when our car was broken in to. After numerous unfruitful attempts to find an exact replacement, I came across these Steve Madden booties which are a close cousin of the pair that was taken. The search for the original booties as not ended, but these will perform well in a pinch.
