In the late nineties, wide-legged pants were all the rage, and I proudly wore JNCOs, bell bottoms, and cargo pants before the Era of the Skinny Jean took hold. I never thought that I would be ever again be tempted by the siren’s call of the wide-legged pant, but here we are.

When culottes first started appearing in stores, I regarded them with the same eye roll I had once given jumpsuits (and we all know how that turned out). Knowing that my weakness for trends would eventually overpower my resistance, it was no surprise that I found myself walking out of Urban Outfitters with this pair a few days ago.
Despite the obvious clown/tent/Hammertime comparisons, I am starting to understand the appeal of culottes. These are a welcome departure from my traditional skinny jeans and I have enjoyed experimenting with different fitted tops to compliment the loose bottoms. These were also a lifesaver this weekend when the weather was so warm.
Will culottes go down in history as the JNCO jeans of 2018?
My prediction: Probably.
