I wasn’t what you would call a “Horse Girl” growing up. My pre-teen obsession was exclusively reserved for dinosaurs, which I’m sure pleased my parents. Thanks to my favorite animal being extinct for 65 million years they would never be saddled (enjoy that pun) with the responsibility of shuttling me to, and paying for, brontosaurus riding lessons.
I’m still not crazy about horses. For few years during my childhood, my mom had part ownership of a horse named Cinnamon who we would visit every weekend at the farm where she lived to clean out her stall and exercise her (Cinnamon, not my mom). Since it was my mom’s horse, I mostly tagged along just to play with the farm dogs and wander to the nearby Target to look at the Jurassic Park toys. Cinnamon and I tolerated each other, but horses being particularly sensitive to human vibes, I could tell she knew my heart wasn’t in it when I fed her carrots.
