This is a very momentous occasion for The Getup Blog: my very first outfit post that doesn’t feature our apartment hallway! I am still not completely comfortable in front of the camera yet, but Alex and I agreed it was time to take our two-man show on the road and experiment with some different background textures.
I was terrified of being caught by a stranger while I was posing in front of a camera, so we picked a place where I could feel more comfortable about being self-absorbed: an art museum.
Moments after this photo was taken, my self-reverie was interrupted by a kind gentleman in a wheelchair who was trying to access the door I was blocking with my ego. My face matched my bag for the next 10 minutes.

For this outfit, I drew some inspiration from the menswear trend I have been seeing around this season. Though menswear chic tends to necessitate at least one oversized element to an outfit, I went with something that fit my body a little better. The problem with anything described as oversized for me is that I end up looking like a child that raided their parent’s closet. I’m just not cool enough to pull it off.
I have been really digging menswear-inspired blazers, and I finally found one that had just the right fit. This blazer has a houndstooth pattern which is one of my all-time favorites, and shoulder pads which make me feel like Murphy Brown. Since the blazer was a strong statement piece, I went with simple black for everything else, with the exception of my purse.
I am looking forward to doing more photo shoots outside the comfort of our apartment building. You still might see that infamous grey hallway from time to time though.
