Getup: Dressed in White

I’m kinda loving these pictures while also cringing a little at the unmistakable whimsy of it all. It might help you to know that there was a reeking dumpster just out of frame. You’re welcome.

I picked up this dress a few weeks ago at Crossroads Trading. In the midst of our closet clean-out project in January, I managed to fill two trash bags of clothing to sell and made about $70 on the pieces they took off my hands. Ouch. I don’t even want to admit the actual retail value of all the items in those bags.

Like cars, clothes lose their resale value quickly. Though I have been fortunate to make back some money on my hobby (Addiction? Nah. Let’s say hobby) over the years, I will never come close to making back what I have spent. I have made my peace with it, but I have seen some people at Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange get downright pissy over the mere pittance they receive for their consignment. I get it. It can sting a little to have some cooler-than-you model/coed turning their nose up at your once-beloved duds (“Excuse me, but do you realize that is an authentic Juicy Couture tracksuit you just passed over?!”).

Wearing this dress takes some careful underwear planning. It is practically translucent in bright light, so I knew I would have to pair it with some fleshy-colored underwear to avoid flashing small children, which is my MO most days. If I am in any position to give fashion advice on this blog (which I hope to God is not why you are here) then here it goes: investing in a pair of opaque nude shorties like this or this will save your ass – literally. Under a light-colored dress, they completely disappear.

Hope you all are having a lovely February!
